Sun Life Financial Completes Senior Management Team

[Hong Kong - 6 October 2001] Sun Life of Canada (International) Limited, a member of the Sun Life Financial group of companies, today announced the recent appointment and promotion of several senior executives within Hong Kong. Together with the appointment of Ms Janet De Silva as Chairman of the Company in January 2001, the changes have been designed to strengthen the Company's management team and lay a solid foundation for the diversification of business for Sun Life in Hong Kong.

Mr. Anthony Lau was appointed President of the Company. He will assist Ms De Silva oversee the expansion of Sun Life Financial into a diversified life insurance and wealth accumulation business within the Hong Kong market. Anthony has over 25 years of experience in insurance industry. This year he was elected as Deputy Chairman of the Life Insurance Council of Hong Kong.

Mr. David Cheung joins the Company as Chief Financial Officer . David has been the Finance Controller for various insurance companies and has also worked in business consulting positions in the China Insurance Market. He is an Associate of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants, a Certified Public Accountant of Australia, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. David holds double master degrees in Accountancy, Finance and Investment from the University of Charles Sturt, Australia and the University of Hull, UK respectively. He will be responsible for providing overall direction for the finance, investment and compliance functions of Sun Life Financial.

Sun Life Financial adds to their bancassurance management team with the appointment of Veronica Wong as Managing Director, Bancassurance Division. Veronica is a seasoned banker well experienced in consumer banking. Prior to joining the company, she was the Head of Priority Banking at Standard Chartered Bank. Her new responsibilities include managing Sun Life's Bancassurance partnership with CITIC Ka Wah Bank, including the definition and execution of strategic priorities as well as leading all sales activities.

Mr. Stephen So was appointed as Director, Sales Support and Agency Development. Stephen was graduated from the St. Lawrence College, Ontario, Canada and has over 20 years of experience of marketing and sales management in the insurance industry in both Asia and North America. He previously worked as Regional Agency Manager of Crown Life in Toronto and Assistant General Manger, CEF Lend Lease in Hong Kong. Stephen is in charge of Sales Support to Sun Life Financial's Agency, Bancassurance and Brokerage channels, Education & Training, Agency Administration and manages the company's alliance with General Insurance & MPF partners.

The Company also announced the appointment of Mr. Jeffrey Yan as Agency Management Consultant. With over 30 years experience and achievements in the insurance industry, Jeffrey is responsible for creating strategies for Sun Life Financial's agency manpower growth.

Ms. Sera Tsui has been appointed Assistant Vice-President, Marketing to focus on corporate branding, advertising, media/PR and sponsorship issues. She has overall project management responsibility for product development initiatives and supports the Company on new project initiatives to enhance business success. Prior to joining Sun Life Financial, Ms. Tsui held senior manager positions in AIA and CMG Asia.

Ms. Christina Hui has been promoted to the position of Assistant Vice-President, Administration and Human Resources. Her promotion is a result of her achievements and commitment to Sun Life Financial over the years. In her new position, Christina will establish and implement the company's human resource and organizational development strategies. She also oversees all aspects of the company's operations, customer service and administration services. Christina holds a MBA degree in International Management from the RMIT University in Australia. She is a Fellow member of the HK FLMI association and HKCIP.

Mr. William Mak was appointed Chief Information Officer and is responsible for Sun Life Financial's project management office, formulating IT strategies and building IT capabilities. Included in these responsibilities, William leads business process analysis and the identification of key business procedures for automation. William is an Associate Member of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants and a Fellow member of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants. William also holds a Master's degree in Professional Accounting from Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
