Corporate social responsibility
For over a century, Sun Life Financial has committed itself to being a good corporate citizen by contributing to the betterment of the community. Today, we continue to organize a series of community events that not only help our customers understand our corporate culture, but also allow our staff, consultants and customers to contribute to the community as a whole.
Sun Life Hong Kong has established here for over 116 years of history. We are committed and involved in a lot of local community initiatives. Sun Life Hong Kong has a Volunteer Club named “Sun Life Shining Action”, which is formed by our customers, staff, consultants and their families.
As our corporate signature event, we title sponsored the Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships which served as a platform for multinational companies to be involved in local community activities. Every year the event attracts around 30,000 paddlers and spectators.

In fact, our philanthropic activities were weighted toward under-privileged children and the green environment. In the belief that healthier children are the key to a healthier future, we gave priority to programs that promote healthier and eco lifestyle to our next generation.
In 2008, Sun Life Hong Kong had donated over HK$1.3m (donated by staff/consultants and Sun Life matched dollar to dollar) to the natural disaster relief such as for the severe cold weather in China via Salvation Army and Sichuan Earthquake via Red Cross.
Sun life Shining Action also organized several unique events to help brighten the lives of orphans and needy children in Hong Kong.
In the "Loving Wetland" event, children from the S.K.H. Christopher’s Home were brought to the Hong Kong Wetland, and learnt about the growing of Chinese Herbs and the development of the Frogs, as 2008 was the International Year of the Frogs. Over 280 kids and volunteers participated in this event.

In another event "Loving Nature", different groups of children from the same Home were taken to Kerry Lake Egret Nature Park where they learnt about the fishing techniques and participated in team-building games. Over 200 kids and volunteers enjoyed the day.

In 2009, Sun Life Hong Kong had teamed up with HK Boys' and Girls' Association to organize a series of summer activities for the children. In the "Loving Music" event, children from the Association were brought to the Music Farm to learn more about nature. Over 200 children and volunteers had tremendous fun from organic farming, maze, grass handicraft, stone painting and African drum.

In the light of the East Asia Games to be held in Hong Kong, Sun Life organized a second activity called "Loving Sports". We invited the athletics from the Hong Kong Team to go to the Tai Tong Holiday Camp at Yuen Long together with over 200 children from the HK Boys’ and Girls’ Association and volunteers where they experienced rock climbing, squash, table tennis, badminton, wushu and golf.

As a finale of 2009's community program, Sun Life Financial sponsored Metro Radio's 18th anniversary concert at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on August 20.
We received overwhelming response from our Sun Life customers, business partners, guests and audiences of Metro Radio, fan clubs, media, Sun Life consultants and staff. Altogether we had a full house of 8,000 audiences.
Top performance was from Hacken Lee, Miriam Yeung, Charlene Choi, Kay Tse, Justin Lo, Gigi Leung, FAMA, Soler, etc.

In recognition of our ongoing commitment to be an outstanding corporate citizen in the categories of Volunteering, Employee Friendly, Caring for the Environment and Giving, we achieved the "Caring Company" Recognition from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for the 7th consecutive year.
