Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships 2023 returns after a four-year hiatus

Hong Kong, June 13, 2023 – After a four-year haitus, Hong Kong is gearing up for the triumphant return of the Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships 2023 (“the Championships”), title sponsored by Sun Life Hong Kong Limited (“Sun Life Hong Kong” or “the Company”). The Championships will take place on June 22, 2023, the day of the Dragon Boat Festival (Tuen Ng Festival), at Stanley Main Beach and will feature over 168 teams with more than 5,000 paddlers from Hong Kong and overseas taking part this year.

Sun Life Hong Kong has been the sponsor of the Championships for 15 consecutive years, since 2008. Supported by the Stanley Residents Association, this year’s event is set to be much more than a carnival, offering a diverse range of entertaining and engaging activities for all ages to enjoy, completely free of charge, including:

  • Fun games and activities: Various playful activities including mini-games, face painting and a photo corner will be set up to engage with children and families in fun ways and win small gifts;
  • Free water stations: Free carboy water dispensers will be provided, encouraging to bring their own water bottles in order to reduce wastage;
  • Recycling initiatives: Waste reduction measures supported by The Green Earth, a local NGO that focuses on environmental education, to highlight to the public the importance of reducing waste at the source while raising public awareness of recycling.

Kenneth Luk, Chief Marketing Officer of Sun Life Hong Kong Limited said, “It’s heartening to welcome back the long-awaited Championships this summer. Dragon boating is a fun and challenging sport that requires endurance and teamwork, which resonates deeply with our core values at Sun Life Hong Kong. As a trusted company, by sponsoring this phenomenal sports event we hope to engage the public to advocate for sustainable development and encourage building healthy lifestyles. We are devoted to bringing the public together and fulfilling our core mission of helping Clients to live healthier lives.”

Luk added, “To further amplify our long-term commitment to sustainable development, we have partnered again with The Green Earth to support waste reduction at the venue to promote a green lifestyle. This echoes closely with our brand mission of building a brighter and more sustainable future for our Clients and the next generation.”

The Championships is for free admission and the public is welcome to be part of the fun and to participate in this remarkable annual event together with the paddlers. Get ready to soak up some sun and enjoy the action!
