Important Notes:
- The investment-linked assurance scheme (“ILAS policy”) is a life insurance policy issued by Sun Life Hong Kong Limited (“the Company”). Its benefit is linked to the performance of the underlying funds corresponding to the investment-linked funds you selected from time to time. It is not a bank savings product. Your investments are subject to the credit risks of the Company.

- The premiums paid by you towards the ILAS policy , and any investments made by the Company in the underlying funds corresponding to the investment-linked funds you selected, will become and remain part of the assets of the Company. You do not have any rights or ownership over any of those assets. Your recourse is against the Company only. The units of the investment-linked funds allocated to the policy are notional and are solely for the purpose of determining the policy value only.
- Your potential returns on investments are calculated by the Company based on the performance of the underlying funds/assets. Due to the various fees and charges levied on ILAS policy, the returns on your policy may be lower than the returns on the underlying funds.
- Early surrender or withdrawal of the policy/suspension of or reduction in premium may result in a significant loss of investment and principal as well as bonuses awarded. Poor performance of underlying funds/assets may further magnify your investment losses, while all fees and charges are still deductible.
- Although ILAS policy is a life insurance policy, because your death benefit is linked to the performance of the underlying fund corresponding to the investment-linked funds you selected from time to time, your death benefit is subject to investment risks and market fluctuations. The death benefit payable may be significantly less than your contribution paid and may not be sufficient for your individual needs.
- The investment-linked funds available under the scheme can have very different features and risk profiles. Some may be of high risk.
- The underlying fund of certain Investment-linked Funds is classified as derivative fund, and its net derivative exposure may be more than 50% but up to 100% or more than 100% of the underlying fund’s net asset value, thus it is subject to higher volatility as well as higher risks. You should exercise caution in relation to this type of Investment-linked Fund. This type of Investment-linked Fund is only suitable for the clients who understand complicated structure of derivative product and associated risks, and you may incur significant loss of principal if investing in this type of Investment-linked Fund. Kindly complete “Risk Profile Questionnaire form” for the application of Investment-linked Fund switching and/or contribution allocation.
- Underlying funds available for selection are the funds listed in the Investment-Linked Fund Guide. These may include funds authorized by the SFC pursuant to the Code on Unit Trusts and Mutual Funds (‘UT Code’), but may also include other portfolios internally managed by the Company on a discretionary basis not authorized by the SFC under the UT Code. You should read the relevant offering documents of the underlying funds prior to making any investment decision. The offering documents are available from the Company upon request.
- You should not purchase this product unless you understand it and its suitability for your needs has been explained to you. The final decision is yours. You should read the offering documents of ILAS policy and the underlying funds, which are available from the Company upon request, for details prior to making any investment decision.
- The Investment-Linked Fund designated with “(Dist)” in its name (the “Investment-Linked Fund (Dist)”) is an investment-linked fund that aims to distribute cash dividend on a regular basis. If you choose to invest in the Investment-Linked Fund (Dist), you will receive cash dividend if the Company receives such dividend from the underlying fund of the Investment-Linked Fund (Dist). Please note:
- There is no guarantee of the underlying fund of an Investment-Linked Fund (Dist) will distribute cash dividend, distribute fixed amount of cash dividend or distribute cash dividend at a periodic frequency. The amount of cash dividend paid is in no way an indication, a forecast or a projection of cash dividend to be paid in the future.
- An underlying fund of an Investment-Linked Fund (Dist) may at its discretion, according to its dividend policy, pay cash dividend out of investment income, capital gains or capital of the underlying fund. Payment of cash dividend out of capital amounts to a return or withdrawal of part of the original investment or from any captain gains attributable to that original investment. An underlying fund may pay cash dividend effective out of capital (i.e. paying dividends out of gross income while charging / paying all or part of the underlying fund’s fees and expenses to / out of the capital of the underlying fund, resulting in an increase in distributable income for payment of cash dividends) at its discretion.
- Any distributions involving payment of cash dividends out of capital / effectively out of capital may result in an immediate decrease in the net asset value per unit of the underlying fund after the dividend record date of the underlying fund, and may result in an immediate reduction of the unit price of the Investment-Linked Fund (Dist).
- In comparison to Investment-Linked Fund that do not distribute dividends, Investment-Linked Fund (Dist) pay out cash dividend and hence, may reduce the account value of the ILAS policy and it may (i) lead to the reduction of loyalty bonus, (ii) reduce the death benefit payable, and (iii) lead to the policy termination when the account value is insufficient to cover the relevant policy charges.
- You should not select the Investment-Linked Funds (Dist) unless you understand them and your financial advisor has explained to you how they are suitable to you.
- Investment involves risks and past performance is not indicative of future performance. Each investment-linked fund is subject to market value fluctuations and to the risks inherent in all investments. The price of notional units of or the income from any investment-linked fund may go down as well as up. You should not rely on this material alone. You should read the offering documents of ILAS policy carefully including Product Key Facts Statement and Principal Brochure (which consists of the Product Brochure and the Investment-Linked Fund Guide)for further details including the risk factors.
- More importantly, you should be aware of the following regarding your death benefit and the cost of insurance (“insurance charges”) applicable to FORTUNE Builder, FORTUNE, Rainbow Saver and SunArchitect:
- Part of the fees and charges you pay (both initial and ongoing) that will be deducted from the value of your ILAS policy will be used to cover the insurance charges for the life coverage and any additional coverage you may choose.
- The insurance charges will reduce the amount that may be applied towards investment in the underlying funds selected.
- The insurance charges may increase significantly during the term of your ILAS policy due to factors such as age and investment losses, etc. This may result in significant or even total loss of your premiums paid.
- If the value of your ILAS policy becomes insufficient to cover all the ongoing fees and charges, including the insurance charges, your ILAS policy may be terminated early and you could lose all your premiums paid and benefits.
- You should consult your intermediary for details, such as how the charges may increase and could impact the value of your ILAS policy.
- Emerging markets may involve a higher degree of risk than in developed markets and are usually more sensitive to price movements. Prices of the underlying funds may have higher volatility due to investment in emerging markets, financial derivatives instruments or structured instruments, and may involve a greater degree of risk than the conventional securities. You should read the relevant offering document and the corresponding prospectuses of the underlying funds for further details and risk factors prior to making any investment decision.
