What is eMPF?

The eMPF Platform is built and operated by the eMPF Platform Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA). It centralizes and digitalizes all MPF schemes’ administrative processes, allowing you to manage your MPF online at ease.

Service Support Provided by Sun Life 

Sun Life MPF launches comprehensive enhancements to investment and withdrawal instructions, offering clients a broader range of choices:

Precise Investment

Fund investment allocation ratios are no longer restricted to 5% multiples, allowing any whole percentage.

Favorable Cost*

Administrative fees for certain MPF funds have been lowered, potentially increasing investment returns for clients.

Flexible Allocation

A new option for designated fund-to-fund switching, complementing the existing portfolio rebalancing and fund switching options.

Diverse Withdrawal

Upon retirement or early retirement, members can now set up regular withdrawal instructions from all funds, no longer limited to just the Sun Life MPF Conservative Fund.

Adaptable Offsetting

When handling offset requests for long service or severance payments, employers can now select their preferred sequence for offsetting mandatory and voluntary contributions^.

Sun Life MPF scheme onboarded on 3 Oct 2025

The eMPF Platform (“eMPF”) has officially commenced operations on 26 June 2024. Various MPF schemes have already onboarded to eMPF, with others are expected to onboard soon. Sun Life Rainbow MPF Scheme has been onboarded to eMPF on 3 October 2025. All MPF-related administrative services are now handled by eMPF.

In preparing our MPF clients to eMPF, Sun Life continues to make enhancements to digital portals, prepare for data migration, provide trainings to the intermediaries, organize outreach programs for employers, and many more. We use an array of methods, such as this dedicated page, to deliver current information to employers and members about joining the platform. Please stay tuned.

eMPF functions

As a self-employed person (“SEP”) member, employee, personal account (“PA”) member, special private account ("SPA") member or tax deductible voluntary contributions ("TVC") member, you have access to below functions on eMPF, including:

Special Notes

The following groups of clients should pay close attention:

The eMPF Platform enables seamless API integration with payroll software solutions used by payroll service providers ("Payroll Vendors") or employers, allowing direct submission of remittance statements for contributions, and employee data for enrolment and termination. Payroll vendors or employers seeking guidance on software development can refer to the Technical Specifications. Should you need to acquire these specifications, please access the page from eMPF and fill in the electronic form by clicking "Request for Technical Specifications for Payroll Software Solutions".

Our payroll management service providers serving Sun Life MPF clients have completed their updates. We organized webinars about the updates in June and July 2025. To revisit the seminar content or get information about the updates, please contact us.

Sun Life MPF will send a list of existing voluntary contribution member classes in September 2025 to relevant employers. For future new employee enrolments or changes to voluntary contribution member groups, please use the provided member group numbers.

Upon joining the eMPF Platform, please use the member's ID card/passport number, member account number and member name for identification. Incomplete information may result in delayed or unprocessed contributions.

Sun Life MPF's online employee registration system will discontinue accepting electronic files for new employees from employers as of 11 September 2025. Employees must complete and submit their registration forms by 30 September 2025, or they will be required to register directly on the eMPF Platform.

Online registration for eMPF requires identity authentication via "iAMSmart", and "iAMSmart" registration requires a Hong Kong ID card. If the contact person does not have a Hong Kong ID card, they need to visit the eMPF office in person for registration.

In response to the eMPF transition, the deadline for submitting the remittance statement for August 2025 contribution period to BestServe Financial Limited (“BestServe”), the former Administrator, will be 10 September 2025. If your company uses a direct debit arrangement for contribution payment, please submit the remittance statement to BestServe by 5 September 2025. In case of remittance statement submission between 5 and 10 September 2025, please submit the payment by cheque. The cheque is required to be received by 10 September 2025. 

If employers require to make contributions through a third-party company or joint bank account, please click here to obtain the eMPF "Third Party Payment Declaration Form“, complete and submit it to eMPF. Please note that eMPF will process the application request upon receipt of the completed form and all relevant supporting document(s) (if applicable). Otherwise, any third-party payments will not be accepted by eMPF.

Employers who have changed their business registration numbers without updating Sun Life MPF records will encounter an error message during eMPF registration due to mismatched information. Please submit an Employer Information Change Form (along with copies of the latest Certificate of Incorporation, Business Registration Certificate) to BestServe Financial Limited ("BestServe"), the former administrator, by 10 September 2025. This will allow us to update your business registration number records and ensure compatibility with the eMPF system.

Otherwise, employers will be required to request information change through eMPF Platform after Sun Life MPF's eMPF onboarding, before they can successfully complete their eMPF registration.

If an employee has transferred to another occupational retirement scheme ("ORSO") or switched their future mandatory contributions to another MPF scheme while retaining accrued benefits with Sun Life MPF, employers are still required to include the information on the remittance statement every month, indicating "0" in the "Relevant Income“ field.

Online registration with passports is not yet supported by the eMPF Platform. Sun Life will continue to provide account access via Sun Life MPF App and Online Pension Services Centre, allowing members to stay informed about their MPF investments.

Online registration for eMPF requires identity authentication via "iAMSmart", and "iAMSmart" registration requires a Hong Kong ID card. If your Sun Life MPF account name doesn't match your ID, you won't be able to view the account after login. Please submit a member information change form to Sun Life Rainbow MPF Scheme former administrator - BestServe Financial Limited before 11 September 2025, or to eMPF after joining the platform on 3 October 2025.

Updated Scheduled Direct Debit Date:

Starting from the onboarding to the eMPF Platform, the monthly direct debit day for the DDA has been changed to the 9th of every month.

To ensure smooth direct debits, we strongly encourage members to ensure their bank accounts are sufficiently funded ahead of the set date. If you wish to change the direct debit day/payment method, please log in to the eMPF Web Portal or eMPF Mobile App to make the changes.

eMPF Platform Onboarding Transition:

As administrative services will be temporarily suspended during the eMPF onboarding transition, the direct debit for September 2025 contributions will be advanced to 11 September 2025.

Updated Scheduled Direct Debit Date:

From the October 2025 contribution period onwards, scheduled direct debits will be processed on the 23rd of each month.

To ensure smooth direct debits, we strongly encourage self-employed members to ensure their bank accounts are sufficiently funded ahead of the set date.

Frequently asked questions

You should start managing your MPF account through the eMPF Platform starting 3 October 2025.

Employer can enrol new employees through the eMPF employer portal. eMPF will notify the employees to complete their enrolment through member portal. If an employee is not willing to register with eMPF, the employer can submit the employee’s enrolment via paper form, the form should be completed by both the employer and the employee, to the eMPF Platform.

Not immediately. eMPF will notify the “Company Authorized Person” to activate the account via email / SMS within 2 working days. Please allow sufficient time for registration and arranging your first contribution through the eMPF Platform.

General points to note: 

  1.  A communication pack with a “Notice to participating Employers and Scheme Members of the Scheme” will be sent by the MPF providers to the scheme participating employers and members before the onboarding of the MPF scheme. The onboarding date of the MPF scheme and important  information about onboarding, such as the cut-off date for MPF providers to receive MPF administration instructions, will be provided in the notice.
  2. They should register when the first MPF provider onboard to the eMPF Platform and no need to register again when the second MPF provider onboard.
  3. Employers should check the onboarding date of each the MPF provider; the notice issued by the MPF provider (includes cut-off dates for different MPF instructions); and the payroll groups and payment methods under each MPF provider.

If the HR outsourcers/payroll vendors/employers would like to obtain payroll integration technical specifications for HR system and payroll software solution to integrate with the eMPF Platform for employee enrolment and contributions, they should sign up at https://www.mpfa.org.hk/en/empf/signuphrintegration

Your payroll vendor can also apply "Signup for Sandbox Access to Perform API Integration Testing and/or Standardized Data File Testing with the eMPF Platform" from the MPFA website. The sandbox testing will be provided, allowing vendor to test and assess the file. 

Following eMPF onboarding, employers can log in to the eMPF online platform to view their new employer account number, which will replace the original Sun Life MPF employer number. When submitting administrative instructions, employers must use the new employer account number, otherwise the instructions may be delayed or rejected. Please log in to the eMPF online platform to obtain your latest account number. Be aware that the "employer account number" is not identical to the "eMPF ID".

We have issued an eMPF Communication Pack to scheme participants and employers on 23 July 2025, including a “Notice to Participating Employers and Scheme Members”. The onboarding date of the MPF scheme and important information about onboarding have been provided in the notice.

Members who opted to receive regulatory e-notifications will receive regulated notices via email or SMS. Employers and other members will receive the eMPF Communication Pack by mail.

After an employee registers their eMPF account, they can use a single login to check all of their MPF accounts (including contribution account, PA account, TVC accounts etc.) through eMPF member portal. Once their MPF schemes onboarded to the eMPF system, employee can view and manage their MPF accounts in eMPF member portal. 

Upon joining the eMPF Platform, can I continue to use my existing member no. to submit administrative instructions?

Following eMPF onboarding, members can log in to the eMPF online platform to view their new member account number, which will replace the original Sun Life MPF employer code. When submitting administrative instructions, members must use the new member account number, otherwise the instructions may be delayed or rejected. Please log in to the eMPF online platform to obtain your latest account number. Be aware that the "member account number" is not identical to the "eMPF ID".
