Helping Hong Kong MPF members invest for retirement - and a lower-carbon future

Through its low‑carbon index fund, Sun Life enables members to grow retirement savings while incorporating sustainability considerations.

MPF investments are typically held over the long term, meaning retirement portfolios may be exposed to a range of evolving economic and market factorincluding those related to the transition toward a lower‑carbon economy.

For some investors, incorporating sustainability considerations into investment strategies can be one way to reflect personal preferences or manage certain long-term risks, alongside broader financial objectives.

Expanding sustainable retirement solutions

Through the Sun Life MPF Global Low Carbon Index Fund, Sun Life is supporting MPF members seeking diversified retirement investments with sustainability considerations.

Launched in 2023 as Hong Kong’s first low‑carbon MPF fund1, the fund gives members access to global equity markets, while prioritizing companies with comparatively lower carbon emissions and stronger sustainability characteristics.

How the fund works

The fund seeks to deliver long-term investment outcomes by tracking the performance of its underlying index, with sustainability considerations incorporated into index construction.

Specifically, the approach is designed to:

  • Provide diversified global equity exposure, aligned with long-term retirement investing
  • Reduce exposure to more carbon-intensive companies or sectors, in line with the index methodology
  • Support long-term investment outcomes, while giving MPF members the option to reflect sustainability preferences in their retirement savings

Since its launch, the fund has surpassed HKD 4.4B2 reflecting growing demand by MPF members for solutions that integrate financial and sustainability considerations.

The Fund has also garnered widespread industry recognition, including its second consecutive win for ‘Best Product – ESG' at the 2026 MPF Awards by MPF Ratings.

As Client demand evolves, Sun Life remains focused on offering practical and accessible ways for MPF members to invest for their future while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon economy.
