Scholarships, internships, project competitions and corporate engagement
opportunities to strengthen Hong Kong's future insurance talent pipeline
Hong Kong, 5 August 2026 - Sun Life Hong Kong Limited (“Sun Life”) and The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (“HSUHK”) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry. Through four key initiatives spanning scholarships, internships, student project competitions and corporate engagement opportunities, the partnership will help nurture the next generation of insurance professionals with the knowledge, practical experience and innovative thinking needed to support the long-term, sustainable development of Hong Kong's insurance industry.
The collaboration will focus on students enrolled in HSUHK’s Master of Science in Insurance Program (MSc-INS) under the School of Decision Sciences. By combining academic learning with real-world industry exposure, the initiative aims to deepen students' understanding of the insurance and financial services sectors while enhancing their professional skills, practical experience and career readiness.
Sun Life and HSUHK will introduce four key initiatives to support talent development:
Dr. Christine Yeung, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Life and Health at Sun Life Hong Kong Limited, said: “At Sun Life, we believe people are the foundation of our industry's continued growth and success. As Client expectations continue to evolve and innovation reshapes the financial services landscape, there is an increasing need for talent that combines strong academic foundations, practical expertise and innovative thinking. We are delighted to partner with HSUHK to provide students with meaningful opportunities through scholarships, internships and project competitions. By helping bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice, we hope to inspire more young talent to pursue careers in insurance, contribute to the industry's future and support its long-term, sustainable development.”
Professor Simon Ho, President of HSUHK, said, “HSUHK has always kept pace with the evolving needs of society and industry by equipping students with professional knowledge, practical skills and future-ready competencies through quality education and experiential learning opportunities. This collaboration with Sun Life marks another milestone in strengthening partnerships between academia and industry. It will not only provide students with valuable internship and career development opportunities but also support the insurance industry in cultivating a new generation of professionals. We look forward to working closely with Sun Life to inspire innovation, align academic development with industry needs, nurture outstanding talent for Hong Kong, and contribute to the city’s sustainable economic and social development.”
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr. Christine Yeung, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Life and Health at Sun Life Hong Kong Limited, and Professor Simon Ho, President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, marking the official commencement of the partnership.
Details of the scholarship program, internship opportunities and student project competition will be announced from September 2026 onwards. Interested students may submit their applications through HSUHK.
