Sun Life Deepens Community Commitment Through Financial Literacy Programme to Empower Families

Enhancing migrant domestic workers' financial literacy through Brighter Financial Futures to strengthen household financial resilience

(Hong Kong, 17 July 2026) – Sun Life Hong Kong has reinforced its commitment to financial empowerment and community wellbeing through Brighter Financial Futures, Sun Life’s regional financial literacy programme developed in partnership with global non-governmental organization Aflatoun International and delivered locally through Hong Kong-based charity Uplifters. The programme provides participants with practical financial knowledge and support to help build stronger financial foundations and enhance long-term household financial resilience.

The initiative has already achieved encouraging results in Hong Kong since its launch in January 2026. As of the end of May 2026, more than 700 domestic workers have enrolled in the programme’s online courses, and nearly 40 have participated in in-person community engagement sessions.

Migrant domestic workers play an essential role in supporting families and communities in Hong Kong. However, many continue to face significant financial vulnerability, often stemming from limited access to financial education. Developed in response to a regional needs assessment conducted across Asia, the programme tackles common financial challenges including debt management, unsafe remittance practices, and scam prevention. This equips participants with practical financial skills, helps cultivate healthier and more sustainable financial habits, and strengthens the financial resilience of both individuals and their families.

Adley Low, Chief Client and Marketing Officer at Sun Life Hong Kong Limited, said: “Financial resilience begins with knowledge, and financial education is a critical foundation for long-term financial wellbeing. Through Brighter Financial Futures, we aim to equip more participants with the knowledge and confidence they need to manage financial risks, plan for the future and achieve their financial goals. When individuals develop stronger financial capabilities, they can improve their own financial wellbeing while creating a positive and lasting impact on their families. At Sun Life, we remain committed to advancing financial literacy through community partnerships and helping more families build a stronger financial future.”

The Brighter Financial Futures programme offers free, accessible financial education tailored to the unique needs of migrant domestic workers. Delivered through a flexible, mobile-friendly online platform, participants can complete courses in just two to three weeks, on key topics such as budgeting, emergency savings, debt management, remittances, and scam prevention.

These efforts build on the strong foundation established through Sun Life’s support of last year’s Dare to Dream program, Uplifters’ signature financial literacy programme. The initiative reached approximately 1,000 migrant domestic workers across Hong Kong, with nearly 200 participants receiving certification. Most notably, 86% of graduates reported tangible improvements in their financial habits and overall financial well-being after completing the programme.
