Sun Life Hong Kong Limited Supports Families Impacted by COVID-19

Hong Kong, April 21, 2020 – Sun Life Hong Kong Limited (‘the Company”) today announced that the Company will donate CAD$25,000 (or approximately HKD$137,500) to Kwun Tong Methodist Social Service to support the Gleaners Community Food Bank. This donation is part of a global CAD$1 million pledge, announced by Sun Life on March 30, 2020, to provide support for communities battling COVID-19 around the world.

This donation is to support deprived families whose livelihoods are impacted by the pandemic. Since its inception in 2005, the food bank has been serving needy residents in the Kwun Tong district by offering free food and basic necessities.

Noel Yeung, General Secretary of Kwun Tong Methodist Social Service, said, “We are grateful for the generosity of Sun Life which enables us to help more beneficiaries. There has been a surge in demand for our food bank service since late February 2020. Retail, hospitality and catering industries are among the most severely hit sectors amid the COVID-19 crisis. The loss of income poses an immediate impact on retrenched workers who often have little savings, if any at all, and very much rely on their wages to pay bills and cover living expenses.”

In March and April 2020, the Company donated 300 packs of rice and 6,650 bottles of hand sanitizers to the elderly and children in Hong Kong in the fight against COVID-19.
