Paddling for thrills plus fun carnival and green activities to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival
[Hong Kong, May 24, 2018] For the eleventh year running, Sun Life Financial returns as title sponsor of the Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships, which will take place on June 18, 2018, the day of the Dragon Boat Festival (Tuen Ng Festival) at Stanley Main Beach. As a climax to the only Dragon Boat Points Series1 in Hong Kong, created by Sun Life and Stanley Residents Association for the third consecutive year, the event is expected to feature over 200 teams with paddlers from Hong Kong and overseas.
“We are honoured to be the title sponsor of this renowned sports event, and working closely with the Stanley Residents Association to bring fun and excitement to the local community – and, more importantly, to encourage healthy and active lifestyles," said Belinda Au, General Manager of Distribution and Marketing at Sun Life Hong Kong Limited. "With more than 10 teams from Sun Life entering the competition this year, we are excited to be joining in the championships.”
During the day, Sun Life is hosting the accompanying carnival, which this year features workshops on environmental awareness such as making herbal mosquito repellent sachets, eco-enzymes and magazine-paper dragon boats, and interactive games on hints and tips to go green. Paddlers can also dress up to join the event’s contest for the Most Outstanding Outfit Awards.
To raise public awareness of sustainability, environmental-friendly facilities including free water refill stations and recycling bins for plastic bottles and aluminium cans will be available on the event day, in collaboration with social enterprise BottLess and environmental group The Green Earth. Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring their own bottles and support clean recycling.
