Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships 2018 Conclude With Success

6,000 paddlers striving for Championships plus fun carnival and green activities to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival

[Hong Kong, Jun 18, 2018] For the 11th year running, Sun Life Financial returns as title sponsor of the Sun Life Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships, held today at Stanley Main Beach. The event attracted 269 teams with an estimated 6,000 paddlers from Hong Kong and overseas. For race results, please visit www.facebook.com/stanleydragonboat.races.

Alson Wong, Chairman of the Stanley Residents Association, said, “We are delighted to see so many paddlers and spectators having fun at Stanley. I'm sure that the growing fascination with this event, featuring fierce competition amidst a carnival atmosphere, has made it popular with local and overseas paddlers, who love participating here, while being immersed in our deep-rooted traditional culture.”

The accompanying carnival, which featured workshops on environmental awareness – such as making herbal mosquito repellent sachets and eco-enzymes, and interactive games on hints and tips to go green, was hosted along Stanley Main Street. Paddlers also dressed up to join the event’s contest for the Most Outstanding Outfit Awards.

To encourage protection of the environment, environmentally-friendly facilities including free water refill stations and recycling bins for plastic bottles and aluminium cans were available, in collaboration with social enterprise BottLess and environmental group The Green Earth.
